Google Ads Real-Time Policy Reviews: A Launch QA Workflow

Updated: 9/14/26
What Real-Time Policy Reviews do
Google introduced Real-Time Policy Reviews for text assets in Responsive Search Ads. During creation, the system can flag per-field editorial issues such as capitalization, symbols, and destination problems. When the ad is saved, advertisers can receive an immediate approval decision or a post-save page explaining a more complex issue.
Google says reviews that previously took more than an hour are now typically happening in real time, based on its January 2026 internal data. Faster review helps time-sensitive launches, but platform approval answers a narrower question than “Is this ad safe and strategically correct?”
Separate three layers of approval
| Layer | Question | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| Platform policy | Can the ad serve under Google’s policies? | Google, with advertiser remediation |
| Legal and factual | Can the business substantiate every claim? | Advertiser and legal counsel |
| Business QA | Is the message, destination, tracking, and offer correct? | Marketing and operations |
An ad can pass Google’s review while using an expired offer, sending traffic to the wrong page, or making a claim the advertiser cannot support. Keep all three approvals visible in the launch process.
A five-step RSA preflight
1. Validate the source copy
Confirm prices, dates, geographic availability, service qualifications, superlatives, guarantees, and regulated claims. Keep the evidence or approval reference with the asset.
2. Check combinations, not only fields
Responsive Search Ads assemble headlines and descriptions dynamically. Read plausible combinations and ensure one asset does not qualify a claim that another asset may show alone. Pin only when message order is genuinely required.
3. Test every destination
Verify final URLs, mobile rendering, redirects, forms, consent behavior, tracking parameters, and page availability. A working URL is not the same as the correct destination.
4. Resolve real-time warnings
Fix editable issues inside the creation flow. For complex issues involving certification, restricted categories, or appeals, preserve the original notice and follow the documented remediation path instead of repeatedly rewriting compliant copy at random.
5. Perform a live post-launch check
Confirm the ad is eligible, assets remain attached, conversion tracking fires, and the campaign is serving in the intended locations. Review policy status again after later asset or landing-page changes.
Use faster review without creating version chaos
Real-time approval makes rapid iteration easier, which increases the need for change control. Use asset IDs or version labels, record who approved each message, and avoid editing multiple claims during a performance test.
For scheduled promotions, complete policy and destination checks before the start time, even if approval is expected immediately. Certifications and complex reviews can still require additional action.
What the system does not guarantee
- That an approved ad will never be reviewed again
- That every generated asset or combination is strategically strong
- That the landing page satisfies separate regulatory requirements
- That account-level, billing, trademark, or verification issues are resolved
- That later edits preserve the original approval
Google’s announcement says support began with RSA text assets in the Google Ads interface and Editor, with broader campaign coverage expected later in 2026. Confirm current availability inside the account rather than assuming every asset type is included.
Frequently asked questions
Does instant approval mean the ad is legally compliant?
No. It means Google did not identify a blocking platform-policy issue at that review point. Advertisers remain responsible for claims and applicable laws.
Can Real-Time Policy Reviews check landing pages?
Google lists destination issues among editable checks, but advertisers should still test redirects, forms, tracking, content, and mobile performance.
Should I appeal or rewrite a disapproved ad?
Fix a genuine violation. Appeal when the ad and destination comply and you can support the case. Random rewrites can hide the cause and weaken the message.
