Product Videos at Scale: A Creative QA System for Demand Gen

Creative team auditing an ecommerce product video library

Updated: September 2026

Google’s Product Videos at Scale can match an entire Merchant Center video library to Demand Gen users, but a larger library only helps when every video is accurate, distinct and correctly tied to the product. Treat the feed as a creative system, not a storage folder.

What changes with Product Videos at Scale

Google says the feature removes the five-video upload limit by using the advertiser’s Merchant Center video library. Demand Gen can then serve product-specific videos based on user intent and interest.

That reduces manual selection, but it also increases the number of assets that can influence delivery. One incorrect variant, stale price or weak opening can appear at scale unless the library is governed.

Build the library around customer questions

Do not create near-identical videos for every SKU. Organize concepts around the decisions customers make:

  • Recognition: What is the product and who is it for?
  • Demonstration: How does it work in a real situation?
  • Differentiation: Why choose this version or brand?
  • Proof: What evidence reduces risk?
  • Selection: Which size, model or configuration fits?

A strong library combines reusable concept patterns with product-specific truth.

A five-gate creative QA workflow

1. Product identity

Confirm item ID, title, variant, color, dimensions and visible packaging. The video must resolve to the same product shown on the destination page.

2. Claim accuracy

Check performance claims, demonstrations, testimonials, comparative language and disclaimers. Remove temporary prices and dates unless the asset is governed for expiration.

3. First-second clarity

Product videos compete in discovery environments. Make the product and problem legible immediately without relying on sound.

4. Format resilience

Review crops, safe zones, captions, mobile legibility and audio. A 16:9 master should not be assumed to work in vertical placements without inspection.

5. Measurement identity

Give each meaningful concept a stable identifier in the asset name or production system. Without taxonomy, performance reports become a list of files instead of reusable learning.

Separate scale from sameness

AI matching benefits from breadth, but fifteen videos with the same hook, framing and proof are not fifteen ideas. Use a creative coverage matrix to track distinct motivations, situations, objections and proof types.

Our guide to AI Content Strength and concept coverage explains that distinction. Also use the AI-assisted shopping creative checklist to make product claims survive summarization.

A rollout plan

  1. Start with a clean set of high-volume, high-margin products.
  2. Map every video to the correct item and destination.
  3. Run visual, claim and mobile QA.
  4. Group assets by concept rather than filename alone.
  5. Monitor product-level outcomes, disapprovals and creative concentration.
  6. Add breadth only after the taxonomy produces usable learning.

How to read performance without rewarding volume

Start with delivery concentration: what share of spend and impressions goes to each product, concept and format? If a few videos dominate, determine whether the system found a genuine winner or whether the rest of the library is ineligible, mislabeled or too similar.

Then connect asset delivery to product outcomes such as qualified product-page visits, purchases, contribution margin and returns. Do not declare a video successful because it wins impressions; automated systems may favor assets that are easy to serve.

Retire assets deliberately

Create expiration triggers for offers, packaging, seasonal claims and discontinued variants. Preserve historical identifiers when replacing files so the team can compare the new version without losing the reason for the change.

Frequently asked questions

Does the feature create the product videos?

Google’s announcement describes using videos already in the Merchant Center library and matching them dynamically in Demand Gen.

Should every product have a unique video?

Not necessarily. Prioritize products and decisions where video adds information that static assets cannot.

What is the biggest risk?

Scaling an inaccurate or redundant library faster than the team can detect problems.
